Riverside Little Athletics Club October 2006
Welcome to the 2006/2007 Little Athletics season.
Here is some information in respect to the forthcoming season:
1. Little Athletics is for children from 6 years of age (under 6) to 14 years of age (under 15),
2. Children’s age groups are calculated as at October 1st 2006,
3. The season commenced on October 7th, 2006,
4. Unless a program is rained out there is a break from 17th December until 6th January for Christmas,
5. The season concludes with Centre Championships on March 1st, 2007, and
6. Meets will be held at the St Leonards Athletic Ground until January 2007 when we will return to a refurbished ground at Windsor Park.
Saturday Programs start with warm-ups at 8:15 am and events start at 8:30. They conclude at approximately 12:30 pm. Each age group competes in a range of running, jumping and throwing events. Through the season we also hold several twilight events the first of which is on October 19th, 2006.
Club training for our club is held on Thursday evenings (unless there is a twilight meet) from 5:15 until 6:30 prior to Christmas at the Trevallyn Oval and then after Christmas at the Windsor Park Oval. The Trevallyn Club are kindly allowing us to share their facilities while Windsor Park is being refurbished. Training includes warms ups, sprints and field events for Saturday’s Program. Athletes must be accompanied by their parent or guardian, and parental assistance with training is encouraged.
New athletes have 2 weeks to try out Little Athletics before they have to join officially. If joining, athletes have to pay registration fees by the third week of competition. As a requirement of registration, evidence of each child’s date of birth is needed. A birth certificate, clinic book or passport will be sufficient.
The registration fees for this season are:
• One child $95.00
• Two children $150
• Three children $195
• Four children $195
• Five children $205
An equipment levy of $17 for each of the first 3 children in a family is included in your fees. This is a levy for the replacement of Centre equipment. Also included in the fees is the cost of a trophy for each child. To be eligible for a trophy a child must attend a minimum of 11 Launceston Little Athletic Centre meetings in the current season.
Athletes receive tickets for each event they compete in. These are entered electronically and are available from the yellow Riverside tent the following week.
As a club we are responsible for taking part in weekly duties such as line-marking, canteen, track tent, setting up and packing up as well as assisting with the running of events in the form of judging, timekeeping, and helping at field sites. Without parental assistance we cannot get through our program.
Club colours are Maroon Polo Tops with Royal blue collar and sleeves and royal blue shorts. Tops can be purchased from the Riverside Tent for $20 each in sizes 8 – 14.
Hats are compulsory for all athletes. Sunscreen is recommended and our club has some in our tent if needed. Other things to remember are:
• A drink bottle per child with water or water cordial.
• Warm clothes. Coats and rugs are also a handy item to keep in your car incase the weather turns really cold.
• Beach chairs, picnic rugs and tarps will make it more comfortable for you to sit on. At Windsor Park porta shades can be erected. However metal pegs are PROHIBITED.
• Athletes are encouraged to improve on their own personal bests. Beating or being beaten by other athletes is not important. Enjoying an event and competing to your best ability is.
• Centre policy is that no children are to be left unsupervised by a parent or guardian during meets or training. If this occurs your child may be excluded.
The canteen will operate this year and will be open on a Saturday morning from 9 am. They offer a range of drinks, hot food and confectionary. During some meets a BBQ is operated with willing volunteers. If you are handy with tongs and a sauce bottle please let me know.
If you have any concerns or wish for any issue to be raised at centre meetings please let me know. I am available via email or phone.
Once again welcome to the 2006/2007 season. We trust you will enjoy yourselves and good luck to the participating athletes.
Yours sincerely
