LLAC Newsletter November 2005
On behalf of the Launceston Little Athletics Centre committee, I would like to welcome all athletes and parents to the 2005 - 2006 Little Athletics season.
A combination of bad weather and ground availability has hindered our efforts to get the season underway as planned however, we have managed to run at least one of each program so far, and we hope to complete all planned programs by seasons end.
Your response to our call for help has been fantastic. I urge all parents to get involved with any of the various jobs we need to fill each week. Each club has a volunteer responsible for ensuring our help "Roster" runs smoothly, and your involvement will greatly assist us in us completing our programs within a reasonable time each week.
During November we had ten parents and one senior athlete participate in our "Officials Course" evening. These new officials will boost the numbers we have available to run events. I am sure they will be eager to put their new skills into practice.
We are planning some specialised training evenings for each age group throughout the season to work on "technique" in all of the various disciplines. These sessions are most likely be held on Wednesday evenings, and will be facilitated by parents with specific coaching skills who will target small groups of children, (and any parents who would like to learn more) and will be aimed at improving technique and skills. We are still working on details, so listen for more in the coming weeks.
We are also working on the creation of LLAC web site, which anyone with Internet will be able to access and keep in touch with what is happening within our centre. In addition to this, if you would like to receive minutes to our meetings, or any other information of interest, please let Carolyn Parry, Tania Turmine or myself know your e-mail address, so we can add you to our list. Alternatively, send a quick e-mail message to me and I will add you to the mailing list.
Finally, I would like to wish all athletes the best of luck for the season, and I hope we can all enjoy the spirit and social aspect of this fantastic outdoor activity. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout this season, and please, if anyone has any suggestions on how we can make Little Athletics more enjoyable for you and your children, please let me or any of your hard working committee know.
Thank you.
Steve Harvey LLAC President

Officials Course
Launceston Centre ran an official's course on Tuesday 8th November at the West Tamar Council. Eleven (11) participants were trained in discus, shotput, long jump, triple jump and javelin. Thank you to Steve Robinson and Steve Harvey for their assistance during the night and especially the officials that have taken on a new role at our centre. Our experienced officials will assist either new officials or individuals interested in running events. If you wish to train as an official please contact your Team Manager, Steve Robinson or myself.
